The medium is supplemented with special nutrients such as blood, serum or animal and plant extracts, which can provide the growth of fastidious bacteria. For example, blood agar plate (BAP) can support the growth of Streptococcus pneumoniae. Chocolate agar supports the growth of Haemophilus influenzae.
